Irons and Pressing Tools
Did you know that there is a big difference between ironing and pressing? Tuesday afternoons were the time for ironing in my grandmother’s house. She was VERY particular with ironing everything – but especially my grandfather’s shirts. She used a ham to get the shoulders just right. She used a cola bottle with a sprinkler plug in the top to dampen everything before she took an iron to it.
My grandmother stood over me for months while I ironed to make sure I was doing it correctly. When she finally gave me Grandpa’s shirt to iron – I knew I’d gotten it right in her eyes.
When I learned to quilt – I quickly learned the value of “pressing” instead of ironing. Such a different thing – using the same iron.
Is there an iron or a pressing tool you are looking for that you don’t see listed here? Let me know and I’ll do my best to find it for you.
