Quilt Math – Charts and Guides for Quilters
So much math involved in quilting – so very much. As a pattern designer – “Quilt Math” is an all-day, everyday thing for me. To make it a bit easier, I’ve developed some tools that I use so I don’t have to figure it out all over again – every time I want to make a new quilt or write a pattern.
The links below include some of the tools I use – I’ll add more as I get time to make them “pretty”. Each Quilt Math chart is printable –just click on the image and a new window will open so you can print the chart or guide.
Calculate the number of squares you can cut from your fabric – based on the size square you need to cut.
This handy chart provides the yard, inch, and decimal equivalents for calculating fabric measurements.
Making Half Square Triangles? This chart tells you what size to cut the fabric to get the correct size HST.
Changing Quilt Block Size. This chart provides the percentage you will need to enlarge or reduce your original block to create your block in a new size.
Cutting 2-1/2 Inch Strips from various yardage increments.
This chart lists how many yards of fabric are needed – and how to arrange it – based on the size of your quilt top.
Calculating Wide Back Quilt Yardage. This chart provides the amount of wide back yardage you will need, based on the size of the quilts you are making.
Print out a copy of the charts and guides you need and keep them handy. If you ever need them and can’t find them – they’ll be right here.
