No more pins and needles in the arm of the sofa or your favorite chair. The Sewing Saddle Bag features spaces for all your hand-stitching tools, a pincushion for those pins and needles – and a pocket for all those snipped threads. It’s a quick project to make (just 3 fabrics) and makes a wonderful gift for quilty friends.
I designed this project to keep all my hand-stitching tools together and off of the (very small) end table on my side of the couch. I also need to make sure that I stopped leaving those pins and needles stuck into the arm of the couch. I know I’m not the only one who does that ; )
A few months ago I made the first version for myself. You’ll see it below. When I shared it in my newsletter a few months ago – I didn’t have a published patten for it. So many of you let me know that you’d like the pattern – I’ve written and published it.
I love that it’s not bulky – yet it holds all my hand stitching tools (and my phone). It even has a pocket that I use as a thread catcher. The whole thing folds into thirds and is held together with an attached tie.
The images below are some of the samples I made when I was designing this project and writing the pattern.
Why did I name this new pattern – The Sewing Saddle Bag? Clearly, because it fits so nicely over the arm of my sofa and reminds me of the saddle bags used on motorcycles or horses. Also – I may have been binge-watching Yellowstone while binding a stack of quilts ; )
