Welcome to the Quiltblox 12 Days of Christmas! Each day through December 9th, I’ll share a word of the day that has meaning for me during this holiday season. Today’s word is: Dream

“You have to dream before your dreams can come true.” — A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
I chose this word because:
When I think of the word “dream,” I think about imagining all the possibilities, all the different paths that an idea can take, and what each of those possibilities would look like. It’s a fun (and creative) exercise to play with an idea and chase it down all the different ways that idea could be realized – no matter how crazy it might seem at the time.
Every “dream” begins as a whisper of hope. It’s the little voice inside that says, What if? before the plan or pattern even exists. For makers, dreams start with color palettes, sketches, or a flash of inspiration that won’t let go.
Dreams are where creativity begins. Maybe you dream of finally tackling that challenging quilt pattern, opening your own shop, or simply carving out more time to sew. The quiet winter months invite us to dream of color, of connection, of possibility. Every great quilt begins with a dream, and every dream is a thread waiting to be stitched into reality.
Do you have a quilty dream you’ve been tossing around in your imagination? Have you:
- Slept on it?
- Given yourself permission to let your mind ponder on it in the background?
- Journaled about it?
- Researched it?
- Considered different techniques for making it come to life?
- Thought about changing the scale?
- Sketched it out?
- Done a fabric pull?
- Made a mockup?
Dreams only become real when we take action to bring them to life. Now’s a great time to take that first action that will move your dream into reality.
Ideas for celebrating what we do this holiday season:
I thought it would be fun to share some quilty goodies that help us take some steps to realize our quilty dreams.
