With a new year comes a new MPS Challenge – and this year, it’s a big one. The Metropolitan Patchwork Society is celebrating 25 years in 2024. It’s our silver anniversary – so of course, we need to incorporate a little (or a lot of) silver fabric into our challenge projects.
Not a member? No problem – you are invited to join us in person or on Zoom (so it doesn’t matter where you live – you can still become a member). Here’s the link to the Metropolitan Patchwork Society website: Metropatch.com
Here are the Celebration Challenge details:
The project needs to incorporate 25 of something, such as – 25:
- Fabrics
- Designs
- Blocks
- Quilting Lines
- Colors
- Embellishments
- Seams
Size: The perimeter of the quilt needs to be 100 inches or less.
Fabric: Each participant will receive a Fat Quarter of silver fabric to be used in the Celebration Challenge Project.
The Celebration Challenge reveal will be held on November 26, 2024, during the General Meeting.
How would you approach this challenge?
This is always the hard part for me – coming up with an idea that follows the theme of the challenge – and has some kind of meaning for me. It always comes down to finding the right inspiration – and then deciding on a technique.
Sometimes the idea – dictates the technique. For example, last year’s challenge was Heritage on a Small Scale. The theme was amazing and I immediately had what I thought was a great idea. I worked on it for months and it just wouldn’t come together so I set it aside and not too long after that – had a lightning bolt idea moment. I went from idea to completed project in about 4 days. Once I had that idea – the technique to execute it was very clear to me.
The beginnings of an idea for this celebration challenge are coming into focus – but I’m open to suggestions. Like … really open to suggestions!
