In the middle of the night – I had an idea. I bet you can relate to that ; )
I’ve been doing a lot of hand-stitching – sitting on my end of the couch. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve put my hand on the arm of the sofa and jabbed myself with the needles I’ve stuck into that arm. It’s a lot.
So … I thought I’d find a pattern for something that would straddle that sofa arm to contain my stitching tools and those pesky needles. I looked and looked and found lots of patterns. Some were better than others – but nothing that was quite what I was looking for. Most all of them were cute – but didn’t work the way I needed for the tight space I have.
I didn’t want anything that was super bulky. I don’t need a huge thread catcher – a small pocket for those bits of thread will do just fine. I need it to hold my phone, those needles, a few wonder clips, a seam ripper, a couple of spools of thread, and some small scissors.
I like my stitching stuff to be organized and easily available. The table on my side of the sofa is fairly small and I kept knocking things off the tabletop. Not ideal.
To solve this problem – I did what I always do – I measured my stuff and created an organizer that sits on the arm of my sofa – like a saddle bag on a horse or a motorcycle. Here’s what the Sofa Sewing Saddle Bag looks like when it’s empty:
Here’s what it looks like with all my stuff inserted :
And here’s what it looks like on the arm of my sofa:
Have I turned this into a Quiltblox pattern yet? Not yet. I will if there’s enough interest. If you are interested in creating a Sofa Sewing Saddle Bag for yourself – you can let me know by clicking on the button below.
For now – I’m going to enjoy using my Sofa Sewing Saddle Bag – and keeping those needles out of the arm of my sofa.
