For the month of May – the assigned block to “remix” was the Arkansas Snowflake. Each week of the month we share our progress on Instagram and on the 4th Monday of the month – the big reveal.
It’s so interesting to see the design choices made by each of the participating designers. The finished blocks are often – wildly different. While the assignment has been to just remix the block itself – I’ve chosen to use the “remixed” block in a flower setting and use applique for the stems and leaves.
This finished block turned out to be 20″ x 20″ – just right for a small wall hanging. I haven’t yet decided how to quilt it – or if I will work it into a larger project like a quilt.
Why am I participating in a block remix challenge each month? I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel stuck. I can’t seem to get my ideas out the way I’d like to see them. Doing a challenge like this frees me in a new way and lets me experiment with many different ways of doing things.
I’m already looking forward to the June Block Remix Challenge – we’re going to be remixing the Bear Paw Block. I already have some ideas for what I want to do with it.
