I am so ready to get this New Year underway! 2023 wasn’t a bad year (especially when compared to the last few years) but I’m done with it and am glad to have it behind me.
A new year brings with it – thoughts about setting goals, trying new things, and getting better at something. That’s true for me – and it’s also true for my business. I’ve been giving this some thought over the past few weeks and have decided to focus on 3 specific things for 2024 (building on my progress in 2023).
First: Celebrate the Moments
I spend a lot of time “meeting deadlines” and checking things off the list. I’ve always been this way – don’t see it changing anytime soon (or ever). This is true for me in my home life and my business. In 2024, I plan to carve out moments of celebration and enjoy them. Breathe. Be in the moment, acknowledge the accomplishment – just for a moment, before I jump into the next thing that needs doing. That pause in activity, even for just a moment or two, feels important to me.
Second: Skill Building
There are a couple of things I want to be better at and this year – I’m committing to working at it. What are they? The first is free-motion quilting. I suck at it and I’m not ok with that. It’s important to me – and to my design process. The other? I’ve made a great start at learning EQ8 and I love what I’ve been able to create with it. There is so much more to learn! I’ve signed up for an online class that starts this week. The possibilities are vast and I want to build on what I’ve learned so far.
Third: Friday Finishes
I hope this one is as motivational for you as it is for me. Starting Friday (January 5th) and continuing each Friday – I will be celebrating Friday Finishes. The goal is to publicly celebrate my (and your) finishes each week. Does it need to be something big like a whole quilt (bound and labeled)? No. I’m taking time each week to celebrate finishing something – even if it’s a single quilt block. I’m hoping you will choose to join me each Friday and comment on the post with pictures of your own finishes – large, small, or in between.
Look for the Friday Finishes post every Friday at 7:00 am on the Quiltblox Facebook Page. I’ll be adding my finish pictures to the comments section of the post each Friday. Come on and join me – it’ll be fun!
Happy New Year!
