I’ve been asked by several of you for a recommendation about rotary cutter blade sharpeners. Here’s the thing, I just don’t know. There are several different versions on the market, and I’ve played with most of them. I’ve purchased two of them (and use one of them).
What I’m looking for is your opinion – based on actual usage. Which one(s) do you prefer and why do you prefer that particular version? More about that in a minute.
Here are the 5 versions I’ve found – and a little about each one. I’ve made the links “live” so you can get a little more information about each one. If you do choose to purchase something, I may earn a small commission. I’m not interested in adding every one of these sharpeners to my store – only the one or two that get the most positive feedback.

TrueCut Linear Rotary Blade Sharpener
This sharpener by The Grace Company works with all sizes of rotary blades. Roll the blade forward in the groove several times, turn the sharpener around, and repeat until the blade is sharp.
TrueCut Rotary Blade Sharpener
This sharpener (also by The Grace Company) works with 28mm, 45mm, and 60mm rotary blades. Place the blade in the machine, turn it on, and let it run for about 30 seconds. Works with nearly any brand of blade.

OmniGrid Dual Rotary Cutter Blade Sharpener
This blade sharpener is specifically for 45mm blades. Open the sharpener, position the blade, and replace the handle. Use the handle to rotate the stone against the blade. Turn the blade over and repeat.
Colonial Needle Rotary Blade Sharpener – 45mm
This blade sharpener is specifically for 45mm blades. Open the sharpener, position the blade, and replace the handle. Use the handle to rotate the stone against the blade. Turn the blade over and repeat.

The Quilted Bear Rotary Blade Sharpener – 28mm and 45mm
This sharpener works for both 28mm and 45mm rotary cutter blades. The blade, when installed in the sharpener, is completely enclosed. Once the blade is installed, roll the sharpener back and forth several times. Open and turn the blade over to repeat the process.
So … what I’m hoping you’ll help me with is providing me with some feedback on your experiences with any or all of these sharpeners. If you know of another version that you really like, I’d love to know about that too. Please consider things like:
- Ease of Use
- Blade Brand Compatibility
- Blade Size: the sharpener accommodates (if that’s important to you).
- Value: Does it work well enough to justify the cost, and does it allow you to use your blades longer?
I won’t tell you the two I purchased – or the one I use for right now. I’ll share that information after I hear from you about what works best for your needs.
How do you let me know which rotary cutter blade sharpeners you like (and which you don’t)?
Easy, peasy – just fill out the comment form and let me know. I’ll compile all the information and get back to everyone with the overall results. I’ll share it in the newsletter first – are you subscribed?
