Welcome to the Quiltblox 12 Days of Christmas! Each day through December 9th, I’ll share a word of the day that has meaning for me during this holiday season. Today’s word is: Share.

“This miracle is this: The more we share, the more we have.” – Leonard Nimoy
I chose this word because:
Sharing feels good. It’s a welcoming word. Having enough to share with someone who could benefit from that gift matters. Sharing what you have could mean material things; it could also be the sharing of time, expertise, or hope.
The word “share” comes from generosity — that instinct to give a piece of what we have so others can enjoy it. In kindergarten, we learned that sharing is a good thing. In the quilting world, sharing might mean teaching a new technique, gifting a quilt, sharing some goodies from your stash to help another quilter with their project, or simply showing your work to inspire someone else.
Quilting is an art best shared. Whether you’re gifting a handmade quilt to someone special or simply sharing a photo of your latest project online, your work touches hearts. Sharing reminds us that creativity multiplies when given freely. It spreads joy, comfort, and connection—one quilt, one conversation, one smile at a time.
The holiday season is often thought of as the season of giving, of sharing, and wishing one another well. I’d like to share – that thinking about sharing is bigger than the holiday season. There are opportunities all day, every day, for small acts of kindness. Those moments where we pause and consider, how can I share my time, my resources, and my skills in ways that are actually helpful in that moment?
Ideas for quilty sharing this holiday season:
Quilters are some of the most generous people I know. We create and donate quilts to organizations far and wide, share our stash, and teach each other all kinds of new things. Here are just a few ideas if you are looking for a way to share your quilty talents:
- Donate quilts to Project Linus, women’s and children’s shelters, teen parent programs, or disaster relief organizations.
- Create a starter kit of sewing supplies from extras you might have and share it with a new stitcher.
- Offer your time to a scout group or an after-school program, helping teach them to make a small project.
- Volunteer to help at an upcoming quilt show – they are always looking for helpers.
- Make a Quilt of Valor and drop it off with a local coordinator – they will get it to a deserving recipient. Even better – join the group and attend a presentation or two, it will touch your heart in ways you can’t imagine.
- Plan to share a day with some quilty friends and work on a quilty puzzle, eat some great food, and share each other’s current projects.
- Do some destashing and donate what no longer serves you to local groups like the Coffee Creek Quilting Program, church groups making charity quilts, or friends who might love what you no longer want to work with.
- What ideas can you add to the list?
Quilty treasures, perfect for sharing this holiday season:
I thought it would be fun to share some goodies that would make fun gifts for quilty friends, encourage us to spend time with them, brighten the day of someone special, or display our love of stitching for the world to see.
