Welcome to the Quiltblox 12 Days of Christmas! Each day until December 9th, I’ll share a word of the day that has meaning for me during this holiday season. Today’s word is: Celebrate.

Quote: “There are exactly as many special occasions in life as we choose to celebrate.” – Unknown
I chose this word because:
When I think of the word celebrate, or celebration, it can often conjure up pictures of big parties with lots of people and hoopla. While that can certainly be true – and those parties can be so much fun, it’s important to remember to celebrate the quiet moments and small victories too.
The word “celebrate” begins with gratitude. It’s born from the instinct to stop and notice joy — whether that’s a finished project, a loved one’s smile, or the first snow of the season. Its genesis is the human heart’s ability to recognize beauty and give thanks for it.
There’s so much to celebrate—not just the holidays, but the everyday joys that make life beautiful. Celebrate a finished quilt top, a well-matched seam, or a creative spark that turned into something wonderful. Celebrate your community, your craft, and your courage to keep making. Every day holds a reason to celebrate, especially when we take time to notice the small victories and quiet moments.
Do you have some small quilty victories to celebrate? They could be anything really, have you:
- Completed a quilt?
- Won at bobbin chicken?
- Changed your machine’s needle?
- Replaced your rotary blade?
- Said “sorry but no” – to hemming a pair of pants?
- Learned a new stitch?
- Tried a new technique?
- Reduced the WIP pile by at least 1 project?
- Added to your stash?
- Used something from your stash?
- Attended a guild meeting
- Gone to a show or a retreat?
- Watched a quilting video on Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, or Instagram?
- Bought a book about quilting?
- Cleaned your stitching space?
If you’ve done any of these things – or a thousand more, you have reason to celebrate. Give yourself an “attagal” (or attaboy), a pat on the pack, and take a bow. You’ve accomplished something – and it counts!
Ideas for celebrating what we do this holiday season:
I thought it would be fun to share some quilty goodies that celebrate our love of stitching in some fun ways.
