It’s Block Remix time! For October – our block to play with was – Clay’s Choice. This block typically has 3 colors – I’m guessing I’ll use a few more than that (or perhaps not ; ). Here’s what the block looks like to start with – you may have made up this block yourself at one time or another.

This time I chose to work with colors I don’t normally use – just to see what happens. I love these colors – they just don’t usually find their way into my projects – in this combination so I thought it would be fun to play with them for this block.

Week 2 of the Clay’s Choice Block Remix – I played with this limited color palette and it’s interesting how different the block looks in each of these 4 examples. Still thinking about what to do next.

Week 3 of the Clay’s Choice Block Remix – and I was still playing with color. It’s amazing how many variations I can get with this limited color palette. Here are 4 more – using multiple fabrics -but only 2 colors. What do you think?

Week 4 – The Reveal! We started with the traditional Clay’s Choice block – and I didn’t manipulate it as much as I usually do. This month I decided to play with a very limited color palette and combine shapes rather than distort them.

If you’ve been following me for a while – you’ll also notice – I didn’t turn the block into a flower (crazy – I know ; )
I played with lots of options for combining these fabrics into a variation of the Clay’s Choice block – and found that the blocks I liked the best – as individual blocks – I didn’t like as well when I set them side by side. I really love when a block creates an unexpected secondary pattern. This one reminds me of birds – or maybe ribbons fluttering on a background. Either way – I love how it turned out.
