Every quilt entered is a treasure. Every quilt has a story and they are all a piece of work of which to be proud. Your quilt can inspire others to complete their quilts; try new things, as well as an opportunity to have friends, family, and the community enjoy it.
Featured Quilter: Scott Hansen. Scott is the Mad Color Scientist at Blue Nickel Studios which he runs from his rural home in the Pacific Northwest, smack dab between the Cascade Mountains and the suburbs of Seattle. He has been quilting for more than half of his life now, and doesn’t see fit to change that any time soon. Mostly self-taught, Scott has found his bliss in the needle and cloth and the glorious combinations of color in this medium. He has designed and created quilts for many fabric manufacturing companies and has had many other quilt designs featured in many leading quilt magazines. He speaks and teaches locally and regionally, sharing his designs and color philosophies. He graduated from Washington State University with honors in English, but quilting and textiles have become his passion.
Honored Quilter: Connie Hector, this year’s Honored Quilter, Connie began sewing at the age of 12, starting with clothing and later expanding to home décor items. After retiring in 2016 from her career as a physical therapist and public education administrator, she embraced quilting as a creative outlet—a craft she first discovered in 1986 while still working. This newfound passion led her to collect fabrics and create quilts for family and friends. Her dedication to the art prompted her to invest in a long-
arm quilting machine affectionately named “Millie” after her mother-in-law.
Joining the Umpqua Valley Quilters’ Guild provided Connie with inspiration and the opportunity to explore a variety of patterns and techniques. Over time, her style evolved to feature bold, vibrant colors, a hallmark of many of her quilts today.
