CREATE AN INTERESTING QUILT BACK

Quilt Back - Round Image
This beautiful quilt (and fabulous quilt back)
was created by Dianne M.

The back of our quilts can often be an afterthought. We work so hard on the design for the front of the quilt – and yet, when we get to the quilt back – we just want to get it made as quickly as possible and move on to the quilting.

I admit it – I’ve done the same thing. Often I’ve found myself calculating the yardage I need for the back and then cutting it into the length I need and stitching the 2 or 3 lengths together to get enough area to make up what I need. That normally left me with a lot of excess fabric that I didn’t need for the project I was working on.

Along the way – I came to realize that with just a little extra effort – I could make an interesting quilt back, using up the leftover fabrics from the front of my quilt – and only purchasing 1 length of backing fabric instead of 2 or 3. The backs of my quilts became more interesting and I saved money too. That’s a win all day long.

To help you do the same – I’ve created an article that walks you through the steps of creating an interesting back for your quilt and a Gallery of Ideas to inspire you.
