Earlier this year, I submitted a design for a quilt to be featured in the magazine for the All Michigan Shop Hop. It’s a competitive process – Shop Hop Inc. chooses a handful of quilts to be featured out of all the submissions they receive for each event.
My design was selected! I’m one of 6 lucky designers to be featured in the magazine. The shop hop ran from June 1 – July 31, 2024.
We were provided with a group of themed fabrics and our task was to create a design that showcased the state of Michigan – using only the fabrics provided.
The name of my quilt is Home Sweet Michigan. I got to spend some time exploring Michigan last year. From the wilds of the upper peninsula, Mackinac Island, Sault Ste. Marie and Traverse City to the city of Detroit. Michigan is where part of my family immigrated to from Scotland. It was so much fun – and gave me lots of inspiration when it came to designing my quilt for the All Michigan Shop Hop.
I’ve mentioned before that I don’t usually work with panels – but the richness of the colors and the images this panel showcased – brought back all those memories of my trip. Had to use it.
Home Sweet Michigan was quilted by my friend Kim of Stitched in Purple. The quilting is beautiful!
The quilt was hanging at the Fabric Patch in Ironwood, Michigan. A friend of mine owns this amazing shop – housed in a old school building. I got a chance to visit when I was in Michigan – and I can’t wait to go back!
Stay tuned – I’ve been selected as a featured designer for several more Shop Hop Inc. events! I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been working on.
