April-Block-Remix-Week-1

April Block Remix Challenge

By admin on April 4, 2022May 9, 2022

I belong to an online group of other pattern designers. What a way to learn from your peers! Each month – we take a traditional quilt block and over the course of 4 weeks we transform that traditional block into something unique. It’s so much fun to see the progress each month and learn something about each designers thought process and how each person tackles the challenge.

We post the first 4 Mondays of each month on our Instagram pages and tag each of the other designers. We also use a few hashtags to make it easier to find everyone. Here’s how we do it:

Week 1 – is the Fabric Pull. We choose the fabric we are going to work with based on the block we are working with for the month.

Week 2 is a Sneak Peek. We share an image of our early progress on our blocks – without giving too much away.

Week 3 is the final Sneak Peek. We share an image (or more) some later stage progress.

Week 4 is the Big Reveal. It’s amazing how different each person’s completed block can bee – we all started from the same place – but clearly we take different paths from there.

That’s the wonderful thing about design – even something as traditional as a quilt block that’s been made the same way for generations – can take on a new life with a creative spin or two. It’s a fabulous way to get those creative juices going!

This month – we are taking on the Hourglass Block. The image above are the fabrics I’ll be using as I play with this block over the next 4 weeks. I plan to post my progress here each week – but for even more fun – join us on Instagram and I’ll have “tags” to all the other participating designers so you can follow along and check out all the fun we are having with this. You might be inspired to have some fun with it yourself.
