Every other year, the Metropolitan Patchwork Society holds our MPS Outdoor Quilt Show in Evelyn Schiffler Memorial Park in Beaverton, Oregon. Some years are brutally hot, but this year, the day began cooler and a little overcast. A perfect day for arriving at the park early in the morning to help set up the show.
My studio serves as one of several “quilt depots” where members drop off their quilts ahead of the show. That means that for the past couple of weeks, in addition to my own projects and stacks of quilts, I had about 30 additional quilts destined for the show. It’s been pretty crowded in there!
On Saturday morning, volunteers climbed ladders and strung ropes between the trees and began hanging 90 quilts, setting up tables for the fabric sale, and another for membership. It was a crazy, chaotic couple of hours, and then suddenly – the show was set up and ready to go.
Over the next few hours, quilters and non-quilters, neighbors, kids, runners, and walkers wandered through the trees enjoying the beautiful day and the amazing quilts on display. There’s something special about seeing beautiful quilts “in the wild”. I highly recommend it!
I did my best to take a picture of every quilt in the show, but I think I may have missed a handful of them. If your quilt happens to be one of the ones I missed, I’m so sorry. One final note about the Metropolitan Patchwork Society. We are a hybrid group, meeting both in person at Bethel Congregational Church in Beaverton, Oregon, and on Zoom. We have members from all over the West Coast, as far away as Florida and many points in between. Many of the meetings we have each month (something is going on every week) are held on Zoom – so location doesn’t matter.
